Herbert von Karajan

In 1940, when Herbert von Karajan was 32, and only 2 years after conducting the legendary Berlin Philharmonic for the first time, he performed the overture to Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg (The Mastersingers of Nuremberg) with the orchestra in Berlin.

You can watch a short clip (1 min 20 secs) of this performance here:

  1. A pity I can't read Persian... But I can understand what you mean. After 20 years of English, my poems still flow in my mother tongue - Tamil :)

I have read a translation of the Rubbaiyat... And I also love Kahlil Gibran (did he write in Persian or Arabic?)

Fortunately, I am old enough to have known Persia and the Gulf as a magical place of carpets, Caliphs, Nasurrudin Hodja, the Arabian Nights and other beautiful things... A pity how the Gulf only evokes images of war and oil :(
